Brett L. Ferguson, DDS, Kansas City, MO, was elected vice president of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons during the Associations’ 97th Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition, held September 28 – October 3, 2015, in Washington DC. 
 
“It is an honor to serve as AAOMS vice president, and thank my colleagues for their continued confidence and support,” said Dr. Ferguson. “I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees as we serve our membership and continue the work of advancing the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery.” 

Prior to his election, Dr. Ferguson served four years as the association’s treasurer, overseeing the annual audit of association funds acting as custodian of all monies, securities and deeds belonging to AAOMS and reporting on the finances of AAOMS at each annual meeting. 

Dr. Ferguson is director of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Graduate Training Program, chair of OMS at Truman Medical Center, and chair of Hospital Dentistry and OMS at the UMKC School of Dentistry. Additionally, he serves as chair of the Rinehart Foundation, the endowment of the UMKC School of Dentistry.  He is a past president of the Medical/Dental Staff of Truman Medical Center and a member of the Center’s board of directors. Dr. Ferguson is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a fellow of the AAOMS. A member of several professional organizations, he is a past president of the Greater Kansas City Society of OMS. 

Dr. Ferguson received his DDS, with honors from the UMKC School of Dentistry, and subsequently entered full time academics at that institution. After a fellowship year in general anesthesia, Dr. Ferguson began his OMS residency at Truman Medical Center.
