Truman Medical Centers WIC Earns Loving Support Award of Excellence - Gold
Truman Medical Centers (TMC) Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program recently earned the United Stated Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutritional Service’s Loving Support Award of Excellence – Gold. This award is in recognition of successful breastfeeding performance measures, effective peer counseling programs and strong community partnerships.
“I am thrilled for our staff and most importantly for our mothers and infants,” said Brenda Brewer, TMC Director. “We strive, with the support of our community partners, to be a source of information and help build confidence for our new mothers as they work to meet their breastfeeding goals and develop that closer bond with their newborns.”
This is the first year the Loving Support Award of Excellence is bring presented across the country to help recognize and celebrate WIC program local agencies that provide exemplary breastfeeding programs and support services. TMC WIC is one of 55 out of 1,900 total local agencies nationwide to receive this award.
“TMC WIC’s success and best practices serve as a model and motivation for other local agencies…and has lasting benefits because it sets up mothers and children for a lifetime of healthy success,” said Darlene Sanchez, Regional Division Director, Special Nutrition Programs, USDA.
TMC WIC is the largest provider in the State of Missouri with more than 150,000 total visits each year at eight clinic locations throughout the area.
